Research Focus:
My research is dedicated to Physics-informed AI for Science, a paradigm that dissolves the boundary between physical hardware and computational intelligence by embedding fundamental physical laws directly into neural network architectures. By ensuring high fidelity and scientific trustworthiness under extreme observational conditions, and by leveraging AI to co-design next-generation scientific instruments, I aim to push the detection limits of astronomical telescopes, wavefront sensors, and computational imaging systems beyond what classical physics alone permits. My first-author work has been published in Science, Nature, and Nature Photonics. I proposed the ASTERIS astronomical AI model, which extends the detection limit of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) by over one magnitude, equivalent to doubling its aperture, and developed the Meta-imaging sensor and digital adaptive optics, enabling high-precision 3D observation and correction of atmospheric turbulence across a field of view exceeding 1,000 arcseconds on an 80 cm ground-based telescope. This work has been covered by national media including CCTV, Xinhua News Agency, and People's Daily. I lead projects funded by the NSFC Young Scientists Fund (Category C), the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation (Special Grant and General Program), and a sub-project of the National Key R&D Program of China. I serve as a reviewer for Nature, IEEE TCSVT, Optica, and Optics Express, and as Executive Editor of the special issue "Intelligent Optical Astronomical Observation Technology" in Laser & Optoelectronics Progress. I have given invited talks at the National Astronomical Observatories (CAS), the Institute of High Energy Physics (CAS), Yunnan Observatories, and the Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics & Technology, and a contributed talk at the European Astronomical Society Annual Meeting (EAS 2026). I have received honors including the WAIC Youth Outstanding Paper Award, CAAI Qingyuan Scholar, the Young Elite Scientists Sponsorship Program of the Beijing Association for Science and Technology, Tsinghua Shuimu Scholar, China's Top 10 Optical Breakthroughs, and the ICBS Frontiers of Science Award. My current research directions include:
AI-Driven Physical Sensing: Moving beyond the conventional "what you see is what you get" philosophy of instrument design by building physical frontends optimized directly for AI decoding rather than for human perception, increasing sensing throughput and redefining the precision ceiling of high-dimensional physical measurement.
Task-Specific Intelligent Scientific Instruments: End-to-end co-design of hardware, algorithms, and scientific data priors tailored to specific observational goals, overcoming classical physical constraints in precisely the parameter spaces that matter most for fundamental discovery.
AI for Astronomy: Building cross-platform, physics-informed AI models spanning multi-band and multi-messenger astronomical data, to enhance data quality at the instrument level, drive autonomous scientific exploration, and establish a complete pipeline from raw photons to astrophysical discovery, with special emphasis on high-redshift galaxy science and the epoch of reionization.
