Research Focus:
The recent developments in computational optics have led to a new definition of a camera, i.e., a ‘smart’ device with computational processing to improve estimation of the physical scenes towards high-performance and high-throughput imaging. Meanwhile, the rapid expansion of ubiquitous edge devices and data centers has led to substantial demands on the bandwidth and efficiency of machine vision, posing urgent need on high-speed and energy-efficient visual computing. We perform multidisciplinary research with a focus on hardware-algorithm co-designed imaging and opto-electronic co-optimized computing, leading to the innovations towards aberration-free computational imaging systems, and large-scale optoelectronic AI chiplets, showing great potential to revolutionize the next-generation photonic machine vision.
